Project Overview
The studio partnered with Pima County Regional Flood Control District (RFCD) to design 8 parcels that currently suffer from, and/or are critical to mitigating, local stormwater flooding. These sites are all located within City of Tucson Ward 3; some are existing public parks, other are vacant or underutilized lots.
RFCD provided hydrology calculations to the students as a tool for evaluating the performance of their green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) interventions. The students were tasked with budgeting and itemizing each park design as a lower-cost basic option with the GSI functionality in place, and a high-cost option with a greater amount of built environment infrastructure.
The studio also produced a children's book on green stormwater infrastructure design for Tucson, using their design proposals as a backdrop to the story. The books were distributed to educational settings within the City.
